The N-400 is the form permanent residents use to apply for U.S. citizenship. It asks for your personal info, background, and how long you’ve lived in the U.S. To qualify, you must live in the U.S. continuously, have good moral character, and know English and basic U.S. civics. You send the form to USCIS, pay a fee, and attend a biometrics appointment. Filling out the N-400 is an important step to become a U.S. citizen.

  • To apply for U.S. citizenship, you must meet the following:

    • Be at least 18 years old

    • Be a green card holder for 3 or 5 years (depending on your case)

    • Have lived in the U.S. for at least 2.5 to 5 years

    • Be able to read, write, and speak basic English

    • Pass a civics test about U.S. history and government

    • Have good moral character

  • It usually takes 6 to 12 months to become a U.S. citizen. The process includes:
