ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS (AOS)
The Adjustment of Status (AOS) lets people already in the U.S. apply for a green card without leaving the country. They file Form I-485 with documents and must qualify, like having an approved immigrant petition and legal status. The process includes giving biometrics, a background check, and usually an interview with USCIS. Once approved, they become permanent residents, able to live and work in the U.S. permanently.
